This week our focus story has been Hansel and Gretel. The children have made their own Hansel and Gretel houses using paper bags and they cut their own shapes for the windows, doors and roof etc. The children have also been busy practising their song and dance moves for the school performance Miss Woods, Mrs Gibbin and Mrs Fletcher are very impressed! In Phonics Reception have learnt the new sound 'qu' and the high frequency word 'you.' In Numeracy the children have had a focus number each day, this week the numbers are 5,6,7,8,9 the children have explored making these numbers and have practised writing them. Year 1 have been finding odd and even numbers 1-20 and we have been singing a very catchy number cruncher song!
This week we have been playing lots of listening games. We have also been doing daily circle times to discuss any issues arisen in the day or simply what their favourite fruit is!
In Phonics we have learnt the new sound v and j. They have also learnt the sight word 'was' the children have been reading CVC words and using segmenting to spell. In Numeracy we have been ordering 3 numbers from smallest to largest.
This week we have been reading the traditional tale from another culture Anansi and the Pot of Wisdom. The children explored floating and sinking using different materials and also made some spiders. In Phonics we have learnt the sounds l, ll, ff and ss. We have also been learning the high frequency words 'he, we, me, be.' In Numeracy we continued with finding one less than a number and Year 1 also explored number bonds to 10 and 20.
This week we have been continuing with the story Little Red Riding Hood. We have also been looking closely at a map of the world and naming the different continents around the world, we learnt a very catchy song! Year 1 coloured maps of the world and Reception explored Atlases and globes. In Numeracy the children continued their learning of finding one more and one less than a number and their confidence with number is improving day by day! In Phonics Reception have been segmenting CVC words to read and they have also learnt the high frequency word 'and.' Year 1 have been recapping any sounds that they have been finding tricky. Homework is issued to Year 1 every week on a Wednesday.

The children ordered pictures from the story and made their very own Big Bad Wolves they were absolutely fantastic! In Phonics this week Reception and Year 1 recapped previously learnt sounds and high frequency words. In Numeracy the children explored finding one more than a number.
