This week in our topic the children were so interested learning about the life cycle of a frog that we continued our learning this week. Mrs Upsall showed us some frog spawn and tadpoles and there were even some other bugs and creatures in the pond water!
In Literacy the children independently wrote information about butterflies. Reception completed concertina books about The Hungry Caterpillar.
In Numeracy the children made amounts of money using their knowledge of counting in 10s. We also solved word problems practically.
This week in our topic we learnt about the life cycle of a butterfly and a frog. The children were fascinated and drew their own versions of the lifecycles. In Science the children identified local trees and plants and discussed deciduous and evergreen trees.
In Literacy the children wrote their own versions of the Hungry Caterpillar. The caterpillar ate an array of different food from bananas to hot dogs! It was lovely to hear the children’s imaginative ideas and Reception tried hard to use Phonics to spell.
In Numeracy the children practised counting in 10s from any number. We used fingers, numicon, cubes and 100 squares so we could notice a pattern.
This week in our topic the children went on a bug hunt. They enjoyed finding the different habitats that the bugs live in and took photos to record; we learnt lots of information about different bugs. In Literacy the children listened to the story The Hungry Caterpillar. They recalled the days of the week and we discussed what the Caterpillar ate each day. In Numeracy the children used money to pay for bus tickets. We added 2 amounts together and used 1ps to pay. Year 1 explored giving change from 5p.
This week we have been continuing with Space Week. The children wrote information about the sun and continued with their rocket making. The children thoroughly enjoyed presenting their information to parents and the whole school. In Literacy the children listened to the story Whatever Next and wrote a list of food that bear would take to a space picnic. In Numeracy the children learnt about positional language and continued counting in 2s.
This week has been space week! We visited a Planetarium which looked at different planets and the stars the children were amazed! Our focus has been the sun and Neil Armstrong, we can’t wait to show you our findings in our whole school assembly next week!
A big thank you to the parents who provided us with different boxes, tubes, bottles etc to make our space rockets. The children drew pictures of their rockets and followed their plans to produce their rockets.
This week in Cherry Class we have been discussing what the children did during the Easter holidays. Year 1 wrote a recount of their holidays and Reception drew a picture and wrote accompanying words or sentences.
In Phonics Reception learnt the sounds ar and or and we also recapped previously learnt high frequency words. Year 1 recapped the sounds wh and ph and applied this into their reading.
In Numeracy the children the children explored doubling and counting in 2s. We had great fun putting socks on a washing line and counting the pairs in 2s. We also looked at ladybirds and dominoes to help us understand doubling.
In our topic we labelled pictures of flowers and also planted seeds and drew observational drawings of flowers. It has been a lovely first week back!
