As part of our Bourne woods trip, the children got creative today! Using branches and woods which they had found from the woods, Willow class worked in groups to make their own pictures using photos as a guide.
Getting involved into the creative side of ancient Egypt, Willow class used clay and paint to make their very own ancient cartouche - which was a carved tablet often used as an ornament back in the Egyptian .
This week, the children have been working hard to create their very own space poems on power point. They've even recorded it for you to listen to!
For our topic of space, Willow class have been making orreries involving different planets.
Today, we were joined by some of Elm class to help build a Shaduf which is a hand-operated device for lifting water, invented in ancient times and still used in India, Egypt, and some other countries to irrigate land. Typically it consists of a long, tapering, nearly horizontal pole mounted like a seesaw. They also went on a fantastic treasure hunt.
Willow class had a fantastic day out to Bourne Woods today as they looked out for interesting points of nature to take photos of. They all had some fantastic photos taken from all sorts of angles!
As part of our science this week, Willow class have been learning all about how different shadows change depending on where the sun is located. To investigate this, the children got the opportunity to measure and record the length of a pole's shadows at different times of the day.
For P.E this week, Willow class have had the opportunity to practice their hockey skills.
Today, the children have been working on designing their Christmas card templates in preparation for Christmas.
For literacy this week, Willow class have begun learning all about myths, fables and legends. Bringing our topic of Ancient Egypt into this, the class got the opportunity create the timeline of an Egyptian creation myth through cutting and sticking various points of the story. They then got to read out the myth to the rest of the class, using the timeline as a guide.
More creativity today as Willow class got involved in making their very own Egyptian-style hats!
Willow class have had a creative start to the new year, as they all had the opportunity to create an Egyptian-style drawing for our topic this term: Ancient Egypt! Using pencil and oil pastel, the children were all able to create some fantastic-looking art work.
Our focus for maths this week has been number and place-value. To help them answer the questions, the class were encouraged to try different maths learning equipment.
