Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to All!
The end of the autumn term already, can you believe it? What a term it has been! Holly Class are truly remarkable, a fantastic team of children and adults to work with. It is the end of our Roman Topic but we will return to another fantastic term linked to the work of Roald Dahl and Quentin Blake.
Stay safe and have fun everyone!
Christmas Week Games
A Successful Museum Afternoon
Thank you to everyone who was able to join us this afternoon. It is always wonderful for the children to share what they have done with a real audience.
Please remember to return your invite RSVP slips so we know how many people will be attending our museum on Thursday. We look forward to welcoming you. Do come ready to learn something new as well as to join in various making activities and a Maths challenge!
Holly Class led this year's Christingle and what a great job we did! The readings were superb and the whole event flowed so well. By the end, the whole audience knew what the Christingle represents and the importance of helping others at this magical time of year.
Thank you to our parents who were able to help us make our Christingles today. They are all ready for our Christingle service tomorrow at 2:30 which our class will be leading- we hope that you can join us.
Keeping our Teeth and Gums Healthy
Today we have learnt the different names and roles of our teeth! We have discussed why we need to look after our teeth and what can happen if we do not brush them every day. Our photos show us using disclosing tablets to help us know where to brush more.
One of our families was lucky enough to experience a long weekend in Rome to bring our Roman topic to life. They made a Powerpoint presentation to share with us when they returned. Thank you!
Can you draw the digestive system?
Holly Class can!
Just Like a Roman
Over the next coming few weeks, keep practising our song ready for when parents come in to see us on 12th December! watch the video below and sing along with the words (click the link).
After creating a story plan set in Pompeii, we hotseated our characters to find out more about them for when we write our stories.
A couple of videos that might help to start a conversation with your child. We have our local PCSO Naomi coming in to talk to us tomorrow. We have also spent a lot of time this term discussing how to keep safe online thinking about cyber-bullying as part of this.
Our Value of Dignity
Worship Council have continued to add to our Class Worship Book. This week's value was dignity.
Today the fabulous Andy and Claire from GIST came in to help us with our road safety knowledge linked to lorries on our local roads. A huge thank you to them as they made our learning fun and interesting.
Exercising Different Muscle Groups
In science, we have been learning about what muscles are, how to look after them and some of their names. We took our learning into the hall to exercise each of the muscle groups as we learned about them- it was quite painful to use some of them! The children have been challenged to exercise different muscles at home each night by completing some of today's tasks again. Please see the link to the document for more ideas.
Children in Need Eye Patch Competition
Just a reminder for children to bring in 20p to enter their eye patch into the School Council Competition this Friday. All the eye patches have been made in class and are looking great! They will be used in assembly on Friday for a whole school photo then children will bring them home.
Please help us to support this very worthy cause.
Our Value of Hope
We have been working hard to make sure we apply our school values. This week was hope and it was very tricky for Mrs Upsall to choose just one person to get the certificate!
We had a fabulous day pretending to be slaves in the ancient city of Durobrivae today!
First we had to make sure we were prepared for the Governor's party by sorting out the food, clothes and entertainment.
Change4Life Adverts to Watch Again at Home
We have been looking at how to make sure that our bodies get the right nutrition to keep us healthy as we grow up. These adverts have helped us to think about what little changes we can do to help ourselves. Everyone has been challenged to do something this week and feedback next Monday how it has gone.
Welcome to Term 2 (it will soon be Christmas!)
I hope that everyone has had a great break away from school and is ready for another busy term leading up to the festive season.
Just a little reminder that we will be going to Peterborough Museum next Wednesday (4th November) and we shall have our parents Roman Museum afternoon to showcase all our Romans work on 12th December from 1.30 to the end of the school day. (In the Spring Term our topic will be about Roald Dahl and Quentin Blake, just incase you are wondering what books to ask Santa for!)
