On Wednesday 12th February Sam Ruddock came in to school to talk to us about the 2020 Para-cycling track World Championships.
During RE we looked at the Baptism of Jesus. We talked about why Jesus was baptised and who baptised him. We made these lovely pictures of John baptising Jesus in the River Jordan using envelopes and lolly sticks. Can you see the dove in the pictures?
This week is 'Bird Week' in school and we have been doing lots of activities. We will be bringing Bird Watch Week to an end on Wednesday 5th February with an assembly at 9.00 am. The children will be sharing some of the work mentioned below and parents/carers are invited to join us for this assembly. It will last approximately 30 minutes.
First we made pine cone bird feeders and hung them outside to attract some birds in readiness
We also made moving blackbirds with wheels and axels in D&T.
Our next activity involved making cup bird feeders with fat and seeds which the children hung on the trees around the perimeter of the school field.
We had a visit from 'Wild Touch Wildlife Centre ' which is a rescue centre in Norfolk. They brought into school a barn owl, kestrel, raven, dove, kookaburra and a baby gull to show all the children. We were even able to stroke these beautiful creatures!
We then braved the cold and went outside with our binoculars and clipboards for an hour to spot some birds.
During Music we learnt a bird rap, in Numeracy we made bird tally chards and block charts. We also explored the RSPB childrens' site on the ipads in ICT. We made amazing BIRD acrostic poems in Literacy and we made doves in R.E. During Art we made a large bird painting along with blackbird aeroplanes during the afternoons.
For our homework we completed the Big Garden Birdwatch Challenge at home!
MY SECRETS OF SUCCESS RECORD
Every child now has their own record book and is aiming to have each of the 8 secrets of success signed off by Easter. The 8 secrets of success are
- don't give up
- try new things
- work hard
- push yourself
- understand others
Every child that achieves all 8 secrets of success will receive a treat from Mrs Fitzgerald. Good luck!
On Friday 17th January we explored wheels and axles with Miss Moulis. We tried out different transportation ideas and different combinations of wheels and axles to see which worked and which didn't
At 2pm we then went into the hall to join the Barmpot Theatre Company. We sorted fruits and vegetables, learned about foxes, grey seals, barn owls and pheasants. We then got to meet the puppet animals - Bob the pheasant and Doggy. The children loved this experience and were all chatting excitedly about it afterwards.
Welcome back to Term 2. We hope you had a lovely Christmas break. We are really enjoying having Miss Moulis in Oak class every Monday and Friday.
This term we are looking at planes, trains and automobiles, from making vehicles out of lego to looking back at the vehicles through history. Our big question is 'How and where would you like to travel'?
We have also been informed that Cam's joke for the 'Voice Box' competition has been selected and he will perform in the finals in London. Oak class are very excited to follow his journey, we all have our fingers crossed for him.
