Term 2

Welcome back to Term 2.

On Thursday 14th December we visited the South Holland Centre in Spalding to watch the pantomime 'Beauty & the Beast'.

We laughed, we shouted, we booed, we ate ice cream and we even got wet.  All of Oak class behaved perfectly!

Christmas 2023 - This year we performed our Nativity 'Baaaarmy Bethlehem'.  All the children sang and acted amazingly!

Thank you for your continued support with providing costumes, learning songs and learning lines off by heart.  We hope you enjoyed the Nativity as much as we did!

On Friday 8th December we had Post-lady Lauren come into school to tell us all about delivering the post (today was her day off but her usual round is Weston Hills).  She told us about her uniform, her trolley, her equipment, letters, parcels and dogs.

Not only did we get to have a turn at scanning a parcel, but she even brought us in some special Royal Mail cakes - they were delicious!

A huge thank you to Lauren for a fantastic talk, even the adults learnt new things.

Tuesday 5th December was a VERY busy day!  First we had Nativity rehearsal and then we made our Christingles.

In the afternoon we had Nurse Pamela come into school to visit us and then it was time for our Christingle service for parents.

On Wednesday 29th November Mr Pickett from Sports2Day came into school to teach the Year 1 and Year 2 children how to throw and catch items for a competition.  We worked as a school to get the best score to hopefully beat another school.

On Tuesday 28th November we had a policeman visit Cherry and Oak class.  He told us what he does and all about the gadgets and transport that officers have.  He let us try lots of different hats and police vests and then answered lots of questions that we had.

On Thursday 23rd November two dental nurses from Spalding Dental Surgery came into school to talk to us about:

  • What is a dentist?
  • What is a dental nurse?
  • What it takes to be a dentist or a dental nurse

We discussed kindness, creativity and hygiene.  We found out that adults have 32 teeth and children have 20 teeth, plus that we should brush our teeth twice a day for 2 minutes in little circles.  We also found out how many sugar cubes are in food and drinks, there are 10 sugar cubes in one can of Cola!  This means we should limit sweet treats for after lunch or evening meal, not throughout the day.  We saw an X-Ray of a 7 year old's jaw where we could see the adult teeth in their buds waiting to come through!

The visit was very insightful.

Art- Junk Modelling

This term, our Art topic is 'Junk Modelling'. We will start by looking at the sculptures of Michelle Reader and try to see if we can spot some of the 'junk' that she has used. We will also learn that a sculpture is usually a 3d artwork and can be found in lots of different places. Then, linked to our topic and our visit from an ex-Army Mechanic, we will design and make our own moving vehicles. We will link Art with DT, and we will design by stacking and balancing 3d shapes. We will also learn about different kinds of axles, different kinds of adhesives and how to use a saw safely to cut dowelling. By the end of the topic, we will have used a range of 'junk' materials to make a moving vehicle.

Each morning we now enjoy 'Funky Fingers' in Oak class.  This is a programme of specifically designed physical activities intended to improve fine motor control and manipulation, which in turn will help support the children's handwriting.  We are really enjoying trying out all the different activities and also the very catchy Funky Fingers Jazz song '10 Little Fingers'.

Our topic this term is 'People Who Help Us' PLUS it is the count down to Christmas which means non-uniform day, Christmas hamper donations, Christmas Fayre, Christmas Wrap, Christmas lunch, Christmas Party, the pantomime and of course this years Nativity play which is called 'Baaarmy Bethlehem'.

Our core Christian School Values are: FAITH, HOPE & LOVE This year we will explore the core values through: Hope, Perseverance, Generosity, Respect, Courage and Friendship.
