The children have made an excellent return back to school after half term!
This term, our topic is Media Magic, in which we look at the way communication has changed over time, from cave pictures, to paintings, the telephone, and, of course, in our digital age. We will be learning a lot about computing, with its three strands of digital literacy (keeping safe online), computer science (algorithms and following instructions) and information technology (using iPad apps and Mathletics).
In English, the Year is will be learning about poetry, pattern and rhyme, with Reception enjoying all the lovely poems and stories with repeated refrains in them which we will be sharing. We will also all be following the Storytime Phonics programme at the stage which is appropriate for each year group.
In maths, we are learning about addition and subtraction over the term, working a lot with part/whole (making up numbers in different ways) and using Numberblocks alongside White Rose as one of teaching resources. This is a wonderful and engaging learning resource, recognised by the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM) and suitable for both Reception and Year 1 as it teaches all the mathematical concepts I will need to cover in both years. Please enjoy this with your child at home, too, to help develop mathematical concepts in a fun way.

Finally, we painted and varnished our Remembrance Day pebbles this week, as well as having fun with firework activities.
