Elm Class were allowed creative independence this week, various art medias were provided and some fabulous creations were produced.

Brain busting Maths lessons this week, Creating our advent calendar. Dodecahedrons are being constructed and its tough work, however Elm class are doing brilliantly and the final projects look amazing. Well Done.

Yoga with Mrs Edwards

PHSE / Digital Literacy

This lesson was about Online-Reputation; thinking carefully about how we represent ourselves on line. We discussed the importance of a positive online presence, what should and should not be shared. In groups we explored some online digital profiles and rated them on how positive they portrayed themselves and gave them a star rating. The groups shared their ideas of how each person could improve their online reputation.  

English

Using cohesive devises in our writing and correctly punctuating direct speech.

Maths

Exploring ratio this week, learning the symbol that is used and showing problems, either by using cubes, drawing ratio grids or multiplying the values.

Science

Identifying the school field in Science this week. We looked the leaves, the fruit and the shapes of the trees we have within the school grounds. Each group were given a tree to find and explore. They were encouraged to study the tree and draw its features. Finally, they created a classification key to help others identify the trees we have at school.

Demon Dentist Trip

We finished off our week on a high and joined Willow Class on a trip to the New Theatre Peterborough to watch Demon Dentist. It was truly an amazing morning; children and staff who attended had a great time.

David Walliams' hilarious comedy adventure story Demon Dentist is now a stage show! Join Alfie and Gabz on this fabulous adventure, as they investigate the strange events happening in their home town! Children are leaving their teeth for the tooth fairy and waking up to find odd things under their pillows!

Lots of wet play days this week; when we eventually got out some of the class had a photo shoot and got some fab pictures.

Reading

Class enjoying another chapter of our class book Varjak Paw.

Maths

Using concrete equipment in the form of cubes to support or Ratio based Maths Lesson. 

Science

The class split into groups and together each group gradually sub-divided sweets using their characteristics. They created a classification chart to show how their process then each group shared their chart with the class with the class.

Design & Technology

We continued making our Cam Models this week. We finished turning our boxes inside out and then ensured we had acuratly measured the wooden dowels; safely sawed them for our axels and followers.

Week Commencing 14th November 2022

Respectful silence descended on Elm class at 11am today to remember all those who lost their lives in battle. Collectively, we thank them for their bravery.

Mrs Nicholls created Elm class' very own 'Philosophers Cafe' where we discussed What is good?

What makes a good pupil at our school? What makes a good Teacher? What makes a good dog? etc.. this was all discussed in our while we enjoyed a drink and a biscuit. Yummy!

D&T

It was great fun turning boxes inside out, we are going to make models using a Cam mechanism.

PSHE

As a class we discussed Protected Characteristics this week. We recognised that we that we shoukdnt leave people out because of their gender, age, disability, marriage/civil partnership, gender reassignment, race, pregnancy, religion and belief and sexual orientation.

We started this session by playing a game which identifies how different we all are ,like, having green jumpers or eating eggs or being in different size families. We agreed that no one should be left out in our communities.

 

Science

We explored using classification charts to sort and identify various animals, bacteria and plants.

Did you know there are 25 different types of  Ranunculus Buttercups? We looked at 6 of them.

Maths

We have mastering how parts of the equations can be adapted to make calculations easier.

 

Art

Mrs James stepped in for Miss Parker this week to teach Art. To link to this terms topic we used our creative skills to re vamp the book corner. We split into groups some crated Hieroglyphics to create our school Moto and a sign for the book corner, others used boxes to construct a pyramid, then the remaining 2 groups made a set of rules; planned how we could display books in an interesting way; how we can include our reading rope skills. 

 

English

Elm class have been busy learning to use all types of pronouns and modal verbs; then included them in our writing.

Today is 'Hug a bear day' Mrs Twelves brought in her big ted, hugs completed and raised moods of many in Elm Class.

History

Today we were finding out about the history of the wheel, discovering that the first wheels were invented1 to make pottery.

PE

Skills being developed; learning ball control and balance using a table tennis bat and ball.

RE

Elm class discussed Believing, Living and Thinking in terms of people's thoughts and actions during the World Cup 2018, Mrs Nicholls shared images of people having tattoo's to show their belief in the England team and the class also enjoyed the song '3 Lions'

We have a seven week term ahead of us; our next holiday will be the Christmas Break.

So lets get learning.
