Term 2

Half Term Projects- In The Beginning

Well done to Amy and Kiery for creating fabulous projects over the October half term!

Bikeability- Level 1 and 2

Congrats to all those who completed their Level 1 and 2 Bikeability. The teachers were extremely impressed by everyone's behaviour and attitude.

English- SPAG Work

We took things back to basics and focused on using and improving adjectives. We worked in groups on some SATs questions focused on adjectives- which the children were super at- and then used out CGP books to improve boring adjectives (no more bad, good, little, old and big!)

Art- Typography and Maps

We have started out new topic on Typography and Maps, and we started by experimenting with different fonts for writing. We looked at famous brands and how their text font help make a recognisable design.

The Final Year- Performing Poetry

We have officially started reading 'The Final Year' by poet Matt Goodfellow. After reading and analysing a few poems, the children were allowed to choose their favourite to perform. They had to think about their voice, actions and emphasis throughout the poem.

Maths- Multiplication of Multi-Digit Numbers

The children are absolutely smashing column multiplication! A lot of thinking faces this week as well! Roll on long division for Year 6 next week...

English- The Final Year- Characters

We have been focusing on different characters and their relationships in 'The Final Year'- specifically Nate, PS and Turner. We created a Venn diagram to see their similarities and differences.

Philosopher's Cafe

Art- Typography and Maps

Our second lesson on typography had the children cut random shapes out of black card. They were then told to use these shapes to create words- a real challenge for the imagination. They did fantastic work, with some people even creating sentences.

Remembrance Day- Making Pinwheel Poppies

To celebrate Remembrance Day, we created pinwheel poppies, then edited a text on the meaning behind this day, and ended with guided reading. We also had fabulous discussions about different parts of remembrance and the world wars.

Sport2Day- Glow Golf

Meet Pharaoh Ken and Mummified Barbie (Organs and All)- Made by Victoria

LONG DIVISION - Math Rap - Math Song

The Year 6s have worked incredibly hard on long division and a lot of light bulbs have appeared the more we practiced. This the rap we used to remember the method.

Meet the New Pupils- Caelena, Keira, Willamena and Archinia

Computing- Animating Our Names Using Scratch

This week, for our coding unit, the children had the task of animating our names. Sadly the pictures don't give the children's work enough justice, as we had different colours, moving letters, etc. We also discussed how we don't learn by getting things right all the time, so trial and error and perserverance was key for this lesson.

Christmas Unwrapped

Substance Abuse Workshop- Lincs Horizon

We had Liz Waters visit Years 5 and 6 to talk to us about different drugs and how they can influence us. We discussed alcohol, nicotine and others drugs. Liz also brought different goggles with her, which simulated the physical impacts of different substances.

Making Christmas Decorations

Art- Making 3-D Maps

We have continued with our Typography and Maps unit, by transforming their fantasy/realistic 2-D maps into 3-D ones! The children have made fantastic maps so far, and will continue their maps next week.

Yoga- Partner Poses

Some brilliant partner work and positions in Yoga this week- can't say the same for Max's camera skills!

Christmas Disco

DT- Making Our Shadufs

What is a shaduf, you may ask?

A shaduf is a hand-operated machine used to transport water from a lower level to a higher one. It was used by the Ancient Egyptians to help water crops, and it is still used in Egypt, India and many other countries today. A shaduf usually consists of a long, horizontal, tapering pole that is mounted like a see-saw. This is used to lift containers full of water.
