Maths- Fractions!
Both Year 5 and Year 6 have been working on fractions in Maths. Whilst Year 5 have been comparing, converting, adding and subtracting fractions, Year 6 have been multiplying, dividing, finding a fraction of an amount, and finding the whole! Both groups have worked extremely hard so far this term.
Take a look at some of the methods we have been using:
After a tricky first lesson with the Crumbles, we had more success during the second lesson. We have been able to code the crumble to 'sparkle' different colours for different lengths of time, and eventually added a code to make a motor work simultaneously with the 'sparkle'.
Gymnastics- Tension Positions
Curling Practice
Persuasive Leaflets
Here our the children's completed persuasive leaflets- do you fancy travelling to any of these Arctic locations? Super proud of their hard work and loved reading all of their leaflets!
Next up- letters!
Sport2Day- Archery
The children did brilliantly in Archery, with a few hitting bullseye!
Art- Changing Landscapes
Over the past few weeks, we have been experimenting with watercolours and masking fluid to create landscapes related to the Arctic and Antarctic. We will combine the techniques we have learnt to create a final piece showing the impact of climate change.
National Storytelling Week- Soundtrack Your Story
We had a Zoom workshop with rapper and storyteller Alim Kamara. The class thoroughly enjoyed rapping along with Alim, and then creating their own raps. Fell free to watch the workshop:
National Storytelling Week 2026 KS2/ P4-P7 with Alim Kamara
In National Storytelling Week 2026, we exploring the magic of storytelling through sound, lyrics and rhythm. Our writing workshops are accompanied by classroom resources to help you deliver exciting storytelling projects for Key Stages 1-3 (P2-7, S1-3). The resources and workshops follow the theme of 'Soundtrack your story' to promote a love of reading, writing and storytelling.
Topic- Arctic and Antarctic Expeditions
We have been looking at both expeditions to the North Pole (Arctic) and South Pole (Antarctica). We compared the two environments and specific explorers who made history. As a treat, Miss Woolf found some expedition meal pouches so we tried a Pasta Bolognese and Chocolate Pudding- safe to say we were all impressed by how tasty they were, as well as their best before dates (2027!) The plates were licked clean!
Yorkshire Wildlife Park
We all had a fantastic time at Yorkshire Wildlife Park. We saw a range of animals: lions, cheetahs, leopard, baboons, polar bears, tigers, meerkats.... the list goes on! We also had a talk about the 7 resident polar bears. We had such a busy day (with a lot of walking), a few of the Year 5s and 6s fell asleep on the way home!

Art- Final Landscapes (Climate Change)
We completed this term's art unit by creating contrasting landscapes, showing the impact of climate change. The children used watercolours, masking fluid and pencils, and used colours to reflect the tone of the polar regions before and after climate change.
Computing- Making and Coding Our Carousels
For our final computing lesson this term, groups of 5 designed, made and coded their own carousels- this was tricky but very impressive when we got them going!

British Antarctica Talk- Sam Warrick
Miss Woolf invited her friend Sam Warrick to come talk about his time working and living in Antarctica. He worked there for 4 months, under the British Antarctica Survey. He shared some historical information, beautiful scenery, daily life and his work. The children had many questions and were very impressed at Sam's pilot skills, and haircut from an electrician!
