Term 6

Topic - We looked at crime and punishment in the Roman times and discussed the 12 tables (Roman Laws) some of these the children agreed were fair and others were somewhat questionable.

If a Father tried to sell a son 3 times, the son would then be free. ( we do not suggest you try selling your children, this is now frowned upon )

Maths - The children did some data research on topics of there choice then created a pie chart to show there findings.

They had to calculate the frequency to find the sector on the pie chart.

English - We continued to produce some persuasive writing to support the trial of Queen Elsa. Once the children had written their prosecution and defence arguments they then had a mock trial. The children all played an important role (There were definitely had some odd looking characters in the court room.)

We then moved on to 'Scar'. We will be continuing to explore persuasive language.

Week Commencing - 09.06.25

Computing - Micro-bit - During this lesson the children explored coding a mico-bit to create pictures, symbols, wording. Some children found this easy where others struggled to to get the code to work however by the end of the lesson everyone was able to get their micro-bit to light up. Well done.

English / Topic

This term we are looking at 'Crime and Punishment' both historical and present.

The class were given a case study and we're asked to prepare a Prosecution and Defense argument to support the case of 'Queen Elsa'

Once they had created their argument the class prepared the court and had a debate detailing reasons for and against. They were asked to use persuasive language and referent specific details of the case.

PE - Swimming

We started swimming this week. This first week was a little slow as it was grouping week so not much time for lessons but we did manage to get in a little water play.

REMINDER - Swimming is part of the PE curriculum therefore all children are expected to participate. We are aware that as Yr 6 are body conscious. Unfortunately, we are unable to use the changing areas with cubicles so we have suggested that the children bring and extra towel that they can use as a cover while they dress. We have also been advised by the swim teachers that children who are body conscious are able to wear TIGHT fitting cycle shorts and TIGHT fitting t-shirt or vest top OVER their swimming costume.

If your child is not participating in the swimming lesson we MUST have a written and signed letter stating the reason why they are not participating in the lesson a we need to record lesson absences.

Also please ensure your children bring a pair of Sliders, Flip flops or Crocs on Friday for swimming.

Some of the creations made by Elm Class for extended studies.

Week Commencing 2/6/25
